Still Tailgating After All These Years

|

David Binder (UPJ '82):

The first Saturday of September during my freshman year at Pitt-Johnstown in 1978, I rode the bus from Johnstown to Pitt Stadium for a football game. I didn’t know anyone on the bus and didn’t talk to too many people on the way. After the game, I couldn’t remember where the bus was and got lost in the streets in Oakland.

Running and panicked, I turned the corner and saw the bus driving away. A girl who had been sitting in front of me on the bus recognized me and ordered the driver to stop. That girl (Sue Henschel) and I became friends.

Sue transferred from Pitt-Johnstown to Penn State (the nerve!) after her sophomore year, but she remains a faithful Pitt football fan. Thirty-four years later, we still tailgate together at most home games and have travelled to several bowl games together.

Hail to Pitt!
