Lantern Night Tradition

|
Jill Albrecht (A&S '04, LAW '07):
My mother participated in the Lantern Night tradition when she was an undergraduate at Pitt. Now an associate dean in Pitt's School of Nursing, my mother often participates in the ceremony, passing the torch to young women embarking on their years at Pitt.

As a new Pitt student I participated in the ceremony in 2000, during which, just by luck, I was able to stand before my mother and have her light the candle in my lantern. Looking back, I realize how lucky we are to have that moment and that I was not only beginning my years at Pitt, but also the best years of my life.
